Editing Services
As both a writer and editor, I understand how it feels to be on the receiving end of feedback. That’s why I offer a friendly approach to my editing services, both to help you shape up your writing, and also to help you learn.
I was previously the in-house editor at The Knight Agency, where I worked on adult romance, and most recently was the associate managing editor at Peachtree Publishing and Holiday House, working on children’s and YA titles.

What I Edit
UPDATE: As of January 2026, I am open to new editing projects!
PLEASE NOTE: I am not the best fit for fantasy, novels in verse, or nonfiction.
Services & Rates
Partial Edit
For newer writers, I offer a partial edit of the first 5,000 words of your manuscript. This is a great option for writers on a budget who would like actionable, big-picture feedback they can then apply to the rest of their book. You’ll receive an editorial letter with general points, as well as your manuscript sample with inline comments.
Rate: $300 flat fee (first 5,000 words)
Editorial Assessment
An editorial assessment is great for your full draft if you’re not sure what your story needs. I’ll look at several components, similar to a developmental edit, but on a smaller, more general scale. You’ll receive an editorial letter outlining what’s working, as well as areas to grow and build on what you have.

Developmental Editing
Developmental editing offers in-depth, big-picture feedback, such as character development, plot, pacing, and more. You’ll receive both an editorial letter with general points, as well as your manuscript with inline comments.

Copyediting
Copyediting is the next step for manuscripts that have already gone through multiple big-picture edits, beta readers, etc., and are ready to be cleaned up at the sentence level. In addition to general spelling and grammar, I’ll check for consistency (e.g., the spelling of certain terms, places, and character names), timeline issues, readability, and fact-check as needed. You’ll receive a manuscript with edits made using Track Changes, as well as a style sheet that includes the rules used, style decisions made, and a list of specific words/names and their spellings.

Proofreading
Proofreading is the final step before publication, and this review is done on a typeset PDF (aka, the book after it’s been laid out). I’ll check for issues such as bad breaks, widows, and other formatting issues, as well as any typos or mistakes that may have been introduced during typesetting. Note: It is very helpful if you can provide the style sheet from your copy editor for me to reference during this review.

What Past Clients Say
“Jamie was absolutely amazing to work with! I’m still just a beginner when it comes to writing and I knew my manuscript wasn’t perfect but I had no clue where to start in fixing it. And now with Jamie’s feedback, I’m feeling more energized with a clear path on how I can improve my story. She kept me updated the entire time and answered all my questions after I got my edits too. Not only did she offer me feedback, she also helped me think through a couple of ideas to make some characters stronger and my happy ending well-earned. She’s very kind and honest at the same time, which is exactly what I wanted in an editor. I definitely recommend working with her!”
—Danielle M.
“Jamie has been an absolute dream to work with. I am extremely new to this process and was feeling quite overwhelmed. Jamie was there every step of the way with reassurance and guidance. Her feedback was constructive and ultimately she has breathed new life into my novel. She took everything I asked for and delivered to the highest standard. Thanks to Jamie I feel like my novel can now go in the right direction and I would really recommend her to people who want to take the next step with their manuscripts.”
—Hannah B.
“Jamie exceeded my every expectation. This was my first experience working with an editor and she made the process seamless. Her weekly communication and updates were always appreciated. And her edits and suggestions on the manuscript were spot on. I’d 100% recommend working with Jamie, and I’m excited to collaborate with her on future projects.”
